Are You Looking for next month's Class Details?
The meeting of the Massac Quilter's for November will be Monday, November 7th at the Metropolis Community Center, 900 West 10th Street, Metropolis IL 62960. Guests are encouraged and always welcome. We gather at 9:00 am for coffee and visiting; the meeting starts promptly at 9:30 am.
The class this month is presented by Cozette Hebert. She says:
"What to bring for the double diamond cut out:
Three fabrics each measuring 5 inches by 12 inches.
- Fabric 1 is a background fabric.
- Fabric 2 is a main fabric.
- Fabric 3 is a contrasting fabric.
Also needed is a 4 1/2 x 11 1/2 inch piece of fusible web like heat'n bond light weight.
This is to see how this is done and everyone will be able to do this small project. If anyone wants to buy the ruler it can be found at most quilt shops and on line at www.Bright-Quilting-Notions.com
Hopefully this is all info needed, if not please call me at 618-672-4883.
Cozette"
[Janet says, "I checked this site out and it has a PDF file with a tutorial, as well as a Video tutorial, if you want to get an idea ahead of time about the intriguing technique that Cozette is sharing with us."]

Remember: on November 7th, Bring Show-and-Tell items, your "Thanksgiving/Fall Foliage" charm squares (6-1/2"), and ideas and opinions to finalize the ballot/discussion on the 2012 SuperBlock Challenge.

Home of the Brave quilt squares Remember, the cutting directions are: (using "Civil War"-type fabrics & colors)
one - 11" square
two - 2-5/8" x 9" strips
one - 2-5/8" center square
Look at the attached picture for the "real directions" and a picture of the assembly. You will probably have to zoom in on it if you can't print it. The scanned result wasn't the best quality, but you can get the idea. OR - Use these simplified directions:
- Cut the 11" Square in half diagonally one time - once
- Take one of the 9" strips and sew the two diagonal edges of the large square-now-triangles to the long sides of the strip. Be careful not to stretch the bias edges. Press to the center strip.
- Now, cut the "Square" in half diagonally, the other direction - once - Neat, huh? The strips are in the center of the halves of the block.
- Cut the remaining 9" strip in half and sew the halves to each side of the white center 2-5/8" square. Press away from the white square.
- Matching seams at the center, sew first one side triangle unit, (and then the other) to the long center strip. Press to the center strip.
- Square up to measure12-1/2" square.

They call it the "Pink Ribbon Comfort Pillow"
Amy has made so many of these Thumbies, and given them to most of us. The Paducah Guild made a bunch of these a few years ago and gave them out at the Hotel where they have quilts on display by the freeway. Here are the "Official Directions" for the Thumbie I think a four-inch square is a tiny bit small; Amy uses a 4-1/2" square. This one also doesn't leave a place for turning: they cut a hole and sew it up again. I guess you just have to experiment...
